5 storylines to track during the Brooklyn Nets’ 2022 offseason: 5. Chemistry is the differentiator between life and death for the Brooklyn Nets

Talent alone isn’t enough to win an NBA championship. The best teams are oftentimes not built overnight. In many cases, championship teams are built brick-by-brick over many years as players learn to mask each other’s flaws and highlight weaknesses by playing in unison for 48 minutes per night in more than a hundred games between the regular season and playoffs.

Training camp is going to be essential for the Nets this summer as the team works through the fatal flaws that allowed them to be swept in the first round of the playoffs. The odds were in their favor heading into the season with two proven champions leading a team full of young talent and unique role players.

And yet chemistry (along with some coaching and roster-construction issues) was a pivotal factor in the Nets’ undoing all year long. Consistency is key, so Brooklyn needs its primary core healthy and together learning to execute at the highest degree in the offseason.

It’s unnatural to ask that these players spend a lot of time together in the summer – though many players do practice together in their free time. However, once everyone comes back together, the Nets players need to find the motivation within themselves to play at a championship level. Establishing an ability to co-exist on and off the court is critical as players learn to trust in the process and each other.

If they can learn to truly gel and play for the team over individual glory, Brooklyn has as good a chance as anyone to hoist the 2023 Larry O’Brien Trophy.
