NBA Trades: The Los Angeles Lakers should explore acquiring D’Angelo Russell

This is by far the most unrealistic option among the bunch, but it is worth mentioning regardless. The Los Angeles Lakers will be in the market for a new point guard this offseason, and perhaps it could come in the form of a player they have some familiarity with.

Of course, Russell was taken second overall by the Lakers during the 2015 NBA Draft, and they could look to bring him back in what would be a fascinating reunion.

Russell would be a perfect third star for Los Angeles alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The guard would bring a requisite amount of scoring, playmaking, and shooting to complement those two All-Stars and help LA leap back into title contention next season.

Adding a 26-year-old former All-Star would also help bring some youth into the mix following a year where the Lakers were heavily criticized for relying too heavily on seasoned veterans.

The elephant in the room is how Los Angeles would get their hands on Russell if Minnesota were willing to listen to trade offers. Of course, the writing is on the wall that LA will attempt to trade their current point guard Russell Westbrook this offseason following a challenging year, and he would likely need to be included in any deal for the other Russell.

However, it does not seem likely that the Timberwolves would even entertain the idea of taking on the former MVP for a piece that is younger and fits better. Nevertheless, the Lakers should at least give the Timberwolves a call as NBA trades start to happen this offseason.
