5 notable trade targets for the Portland Trail Blazers to pair with Damian Lillard: Christian Wood

Sticking with big men, Christian Wood could certainly be a compelling trade target for the Blazers. Wood was constantly mentioned in trade rumors during the year, with The Athletic’s Sam Amick, David Aldridge, and John Hollinger (subscription required) reporting that Wood was available for trade at the 2022 deadline. If the Houston Rockets are still willing to discuss a deal for Wood this offseason, the Blazers should give them a call to at least kick the tires.

Since joining the Houston Rockets two seasons ago, Wood has taken his game to another level, as he has averaged 19.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and one blocked shot in 109 appearances.

Numbers like that certainly fit the billing of another star, and Wood would be a great complement to Damian Lillard offensively, as the two could wreak some havoc on that side of the ball. How Wood would help defensively is undoubtedly in question in this scenario, given his weaknesses on that side of the basketball, but the 26-year-old would be a quality fit in Portland’s lineup regardless.

While it is not exactly clear what Houston may ask for in any trade for Wood, the Blazers have the assets in tow to make a solid offer. On the books for $14.3 million next season, Wood is more than affordable as a trade target, which makes his fit in Portland all the more interesting.

If Wood is on the trade market once again this offseason, he could be an under-the-radar target for the Blazers, as he would pair Lillard with another household name.
