3 options for Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz this summer: Trade Mitchell

This seems crazy, but what if it’s not? Jones reported that the Jazz are all-in on Mitchell and want to build around him, but maybe that’s not what’s best for the organization.

My friend Spencer Poole pointed this out in a Twitter Spaces the other day – there are plenty of guys around the league who can give you 25 points, but how many can anchor a defense like Gobert does?

Yes, this sounds crazy when you say it out loud, but when you consider the fact that Mitchell would undoubtedly have more trade value than Gobert anyways, is it really that wild of a take?

Even if it is, Mitchell could take the decision out of Utah’s hands completely. He just recently stated that he wants to stay with the Jazz, but that could all change at a moment’s notice.

As mentioned, it was just earlier this season that it was rumored that Mitchell wanted to play in a bigger market. The New York Knicks were brought up and it’s also been made abundantly clear that Mitchell loves the Miami Heat.

So, all-in-all, would the Jazz be better off trading Mitchell and trying to find Gobert a new partner? Probably not. But it’s definitely an interesting idea, and if Mitchell forces his way out, they may have to pursue it.
