Offseason moves the Orlando Magic need to make: 5. Pick up Cole Anthony’s team option

To put it simply, a big part of the future of the Orlando Magic lies with Anthony. The second-year guard has improved in almost every traditional statistical category. This is an impressive feat given the way that the Magic struggled through the season.

His ability to shoot the ball as well as his creation for others is a key to how the Magic are going to develop into a more competitive team. Suggs is going to be a tremendous player, but Anthony is truly the future cornerstone of the team.

Again, like Hampton and Okeke, Anthony is about to enter the third year of his career and is only going to cost the Magic a reasonably small amount. His $3.6 million is higher than the other two, but he is worth so much more.

While the Magic have not been a big free agency destination for a while, given the core that they are developing and the money that they have available, they might be able to change that fact. The play of Anthony and some of the other young prospects are going to be a key to the Magic being able to pull themselves out of the current position in the standings.
