5 roster moves the Houston Rockets need to make this offseason
Offseason move for the Houston Rockets: 5. Trade Eric Gordon
Eric Gordon is the second-highest-paid player on the team behind only John Wall. While Gordon is a tremendous player, he plays the same position as Jalen Green, and the Rockets need to be all-in on Green, as he is one of the future cornerstones of this franchise.
Gordon’s deal is enticing, as he is in the last guaranteed year of his contract. He has shown that he can still be an effective player, hitting 41.2 percent of his three-point attempts on the season. This is an impressive number, given that most teams would scout the Rockets and focus on Gordon, because he is one of their best players.
The only hesitation that some teams may have is the $19.6 million on Gordon’s contract for next season. But the 33-year-old is a risk worth taking. The Rockets are in a position to absorb some bad deals as long as they can get a future piece or two for Gordon. The Rockets already have two first-round picks in the upcoming NBA Draft.
The biggest problem is that Gordon does not fit the current timeline for the Rockets. Such is his character, Gordon is still playing at a high level and this would certainly keep his value high for the Rockets to get the best deal they can.
