Offseason move for the Houston Rockets: 4. Move on from Dennis Schröder
The Rockets acquired the German point guard from the Boston Celtics via trade in early February. They sent out Daniel Theis, receiving Bruno Fernando, Enes Freedom, and Dennis Schröder. They then waived Freedom, keeping Fernando and Schröder.
Schröder appeared in 15 contests, averaging 10.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 3.3 rebounds in 26.9 minutes per game. His shooting percentages were down during his time with the Rockets, as he shot 39.3 percent from the floor and 32.8 percent from the perimeter.
The problem for the Rockets is that Schröder did not move the needle much. In the 15 games that he played, Schröder only started four of them. The Rockets also only won three games when Schröder was in uniform, which is not enough to justify the size of contract that he will be searching for next season.
Schröder signed with the Celtics at the start of the season for $5.9 million after he waited too long. All the teams that he could have played for who were contenders had filled up their cap space. This offseason, Schröder will be looking to maximize his earnings as he is nearing 30 years of age. He also wants to be a key contributor on a contending team.
