The Indiana Pacers blew things up this season, trading away franchise pillar Domantas Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield.
Since the trade, the general consensus has been that
t the Pacers won the deal, as Haliburton has looked like the type of player a franchise can build around. Meanwhile, the Kings missed the playoffs for the 16th year in a row.
That being said, Indiana’s rebuild is far from over. They have a great building block, but with the offseason coming up, more moves could be and should be on the way.
Stein: Indiana Pacers likely to trade Malcolm Brogdon this offseason
According to Marc Stein (subscription required), one of those moves is likely to involve guard, Malcolm Brogdon. The veteran guard eas not eligible to be traded this year due to the timing of the contract extension this past offseason. (H/T Bleacher Report)
Stein reported that Indiana has informed some rival teams that Brogdon will be available for trade this summer. No teams were named, in particular, but the term “rival” implies that some are in the Eastern Conference.
However, one team that immediately comes to mind is the Dallas Mavericks. They found a ton of success pairing Luka Doncic with Spencer Dinwiddie, so adding another ball-handling guard that would allow Dinwiddie to continue to come off the bench would be great.
Outside of that, teams like the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks come to mind. The two teams are in vastly different positions, but both could use some extra ball-handling.
Brogdon is the type of player who could join any team and fit in perfectly. He’s a great passer, an uber-efficient shooter, and he plays hard on the defensive side of the ball.
With the Pacers looking to reset, it makes complete sense that they will be looking to trade Brogdon. The question is, which lucky team will win the sweepstakes?
