NBA All-Rookie Teams Predictions: Other probable picks

Josh Giddey, Oklahoma City

Giddey was cruising to a First Team selection before getting injured. Done for the season with a hip injury, he finished his rookie year with 54 games played. He should still land on the Second Team but has an outside shot at sneaking onto the First Team.

Chris Duarte, Indiana Pacers

Like Giddey, Duarte is done for the year (he played in one more game). Duarte’s case for the NBA All-Rookie Team is consistency. He didn’t have a slow start and he never had a bad month. The swingman consistently performed at a strong level. Advanced stats like on/off RAPTOR and WAR favor Duarte over fringe picks like Davion Mitchell, Alperen Sengun, and Jonathan Kuminga.

Bones Hyland, Denver Nuggets

Quickly proving to be a post-lottery steal, Hyland (26th pick) has headlined Denver’s second unit. While not as consistent as Duarte, the combo guard can get red hot in a flash. Just look at the time he scored 12 points in the fourth quarter in a win over Philly on March 14. He’s not a lock, but he should find his way onto the Second Team.
