The wild journey of Spencer Dinwiddie this season: Play with the Mavericks

With Dinwiddie in the lineup, the Mavs are 10-3. He allows the Mavericks to run a three-guard lineup with Luka Dončić and Jalen Brunson and acts as insurance, allowing Dončić to sometimes play off the ball with another point guard and shot-creator.

In 13 outings as a Maverick, Dinwiddie has put up 17.5 points on 48.7 percent shooting from the field and 40.3 percent shooting from the perimeter.

The trade to bring in the soon-to-be 29-year-old was a bit of a shock at first, as the Mavs gave up former All-Star Kristaps Porzingis in order to make the deal happen. Dallas was in the mix of top teams in the west winning 16 of their last 21 at the time, however, there had always been noise surrounding Porzingis as a fit.

And now that he’s been replaced by Dinwiddie, the Mavs are still rolling. In fact, a couple of their recent wins have come as a direct result of his clutch play down the stretch.

In two straight games, against the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets, Dinwiddie hit what would be the game-winning shot, with his three against the Nets actually coming at the buzzer. He’s been great for the Mavs.
