6 factors behind the Boston Celtics incredible turnaround: Jayson Tatum

Since the All-Star break, there have not been many players better than Jayson Tatum, as he leading the NBA in scoring over that stretch, averaging 32.5 points. He’s also tallying 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists, all while shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from three. He has scored 30 or more in seven of Boston’s last 11 games.

Before the Celtics fell on the night of Kevin Garnett’s jersey retirement against the Dallas Mavericks, they were undefeated in March with five consecutive wins. Over that stretch, Tatum was putting up almost 40 points to go along with roughly six rebounds and four assists, and putting up shooting splits of 54.2/40.0/87.8.

No player has more 50-point outings than him in the last two seasons after his masterpiece against the Nets. He put up 54 points, marking his fourth 50-point game in the regular season, tying Larry Bird. Tatum also now has the third most 50-point contests ever before turning 25, passing Kobe Bryant with six, and now sitting behind only Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

Tatum has the best defensive rating out of any wing player since the new year as well. At just 24 years old, the three-time All-Star has taken his game to another level as he continues to grow as the franchise player for this Celtics squad.
