6 factors behind the Boston Celtics incredible turnaround: The DPOY candidates

The Time Lord, especially throughout Boston’s poor start to the season, has been one of the brightest parts of this Celtics team. He’s playing over 30 minutes a night and has become the team’s defensive anchor.

The big man has always had scary explosiveness and athleticism for a center, as he possesses the ability to jump out of the gym and swat shots. Williams is currently averaging a ridiculous 2.2 blocks a night.

He brings it on offense, too, as Williams scored over ten points in every game through the Celtics’ stellar month of February. He missed out on double-digit rebounds in just three of those games, too.

Williams even recorded a triple-double with 10 assists to go along with five blocks and two steals in the aforementioned game vs. the Phoenix Suns on New Year’s Eve. He’s proven to be an all-around threat on both ends.

Boston’s big man isn’t the only defensive leader on the C’s, though. It could easily be argued that Marcus Smart calling out the team earlier on in the season played a big part in the team’s resurgance.

Smart has been the motor of this huge run with his improved scoring and all-around play at the one. Per usual, he’s also been igniting Boston’s defense like the heart and soul that he is, and full deserves Defensive Player of The Year votes. The Celtics have only lost three of the last 25 their point guard has appeared in.
