The first day of March Madness just wrapped up on Thursday night, and it was every bit as crazy as anyone could have hoped for. There was no shortage of action, and almost every game was amazing.
There were a ton of upsets, a ton of amazing performances, and a ton of amazing moments. But the one performance that stood out among the rest was Teddy Allen and the New Mexico St. Aggies.

Sure, 15th-seeded St. Peter’s upset second-seeded Kentucky. Sure, 12th-seeded Richmond took down fifth-seeded Iowa. But none of it compared to the Aggies.
New Mexico St., the 12 seed, took down UCONN, the five seed. And while most upsets in March Madness take a team effort, that was the exact opposite of what happened.
The 6’6” forward dropped an incredible 37 points against the Huskies, as New Mexico St. won 70-63. No one else on the Aggies scored in double digits as Allen willed them to a win, scoring more than half the team’s points.
Allen is currently unranked on ESPN’s top 100 list, most likely due to the fact that he’s already 23 years old, and will turn 24 this June. He’s playing on his third college team in five years.
However, with a performance as electric as the one he put together, it’s hard to imagine Allen won’t draw at least a little bit of interest from NBA scouts. Upperclassmen have been trending up in recent years, and more and more teams are looking for NBA-ready talent.
