Should the Brooklyn Nets give Kyrie Irving a contract extension?: Pros

The pros to giving Kyrie Irving a contract extension are clear. He’s one of the best point guards in the NBA, and his level of play as of late has been that of a top-ten player in the league.

It’s very clear that the Brooklyn Nets are an elite-level basketball team when Irving is on the floor. When both Irving and Kevin Durant play, the Nets are 51-26 all-time.

If Brooklyn wants to compete for a championship for the rest of Durant’s prime, then having Irving around is the clear top option, especially because the two are friends.

In addition, Irving is only 29 years old, so he has plenty of prime years left. Even if the Nets wanted to give Irving a three or four-year extension, he’d probably still be playing at this level by the end of his deal.

Plus, the only reason Irving hasn’t been able to play in home games this year is because of the private mandates in New York. But with how things are trending, those mandates could be gone sooner rather than later.

Once this happens, Irving will be able to play in home games, and everything would (hopefully) be back to normal. If and when that happens, giving Irving an extension is a no-brainer.
