Should the Brooklyn Nets give Kyrie Irving a contract extension?
By Jack Simone
Kyrie Irving cannot play at Barclays Center. The mandates in New York City still restrict him from playing home games, but he can attend the games as a spectator.
Just recently, the NBA fined the Brooklyn Nets $50,000 for breaking local laws and allowing Irving back in the locker room for the rest of the team. This is because the locker room is technically a part of the work environment.
Should the Brooklyn Nets give Kyrie Irving a contract extension?
But for as much of a headache it’s been for the Nets not to have Irving this season, when he has been on the court, Irving has been nothing short of phenomenal.
In a win over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night, Irving dropped 60 points, and he was even subbed out with over eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.
This marked a career-high for Irving and also the franchise record for the Nets. Irving put on a Master Class, and he has been for the past few weeks.
His 60-point game came not long after Irving 50 points in a win over the Charlotte Hornets. Irving became the fourth player this season with multiple 50-point games.
The other three are LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, and Irving’s teammate Kevin Durant. Everyone knows how elite Irving is, but he’s been on another level this season.
All things considered, his play as of late raises one very important question – should the Nets give Irving a contract extension? What are the pros of extending Irving for multiple seasons? What are the cons?
