Last season, the New York Knicks were the talk of the town. They surpassed all expectations and managed to snag the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference.

And while that run ended in the first round of the playoffs when they got defeated by the Atlanta Hawks, there was a lot of hype after they added multiple pieces this offseason.

New York signed both Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier in hopes of beefing up their offense. The Knicks’ defense was great last year, so in theory, all they needed was more offensive weapons.

Julius Randle was their All-NBA-caliber player, Walker and Fournier would provide offensive sparks, and they still had the majority of the same depth they had last season.

Well, as we know now, that did not go according to plan. Right now, the Knicks are 25-38, which is good for the 12th seed. It’s looking like they’re not even going to make the play-in.

Randle has taken a major step back, Walker isn’t even with the team, Fournier is extremely inconsistent, and Tom Thibodeau is being constantly criticized for not playing his young players.

Now, fans have begun to beg the Knicks to pivot directions. Since it’s clear they aren’t talented enough to compete for the playoffs, the new plan (that fans are hoping for) is to kickstart a rebuild.

Luckily for the Knicks, they have the perfect player to rebuild around. He’s already on the roster, and all that’s left to do is hand him the keys.

It’s time for the New York Knicks to give the team to RJ Barrett.
