What happened to the Brooklyn Nets?

Before Kevin Durant suffered from his MCL sprain, the Nets were second in the Eastern ConferenceThey managed to keep up their place in the rankings for a little while, even jumping up to first in the East at one point.

However, soon after, Brooklyn started to slowly decline in rankings. And in less than 15 days they had dropped to eighth in the conference. On January 23, the Nets took on the Minnesota Timberwolves and lost 125-136. Starting with that game, they went on a losing streak of 11.

Back in February, the Nets suffered an ugly loss against the Boston Celtics, which was the epitome of all of their struggles. To put it in perspective, at one point in the game, the Nets were losing to Celtics 28-2.

Obviously, Brooklyn’s struggles could be due to the fact that many of their leading players are out. Kyrie Irving is constantly in and out of the lineup due to the current vaccine mandate in New York City. Kevin Durant is out with the aforementioned MCL injury, but luckily, he’s expected to be back before the end of the regular season.

They have lost a key player, James Harden, who was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers at the trade deadline on February 10. In return, they received Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and multiple first-round picks.

The move was for the best, as Harden was getting frustrated that both Kyrie and Durant were out, and Simmons had also expressed his frustration with his time in Philidelphia, a saga that was well documented.

Currently, the Nets sit at eighth in the East and are on a two-game losing streak. Their next game is against the Milwaukee Bucks, which will certainly be an uphill battle, especially considering injuries.

January 7 was the last time they played the Bucks, and they ended up losing 109-121. And to make matters worse, the Nets had both Durant and Harden in that one.

As the rest of the season plays out, keep a close eye on the Nets, because right now, they are free-falling down the standings.
