It was announced on Wednesday that the New York Knicks and Kemba Walker had come to an agreement that will see the former All-Star remain sidelined for the remainder of the season.
While most initially thought that this was the choice of the team, that may not be the case. In a statement, Leon Rose said that they fully support “his decision,” insinuating that it was Walker’s choice to be sidelined.
This may seem odd, but with the trajectory that Knicks are on this year, it makes sense. Rose also mentioned that Walker plans to “prepare for next season.”
With that in mind, it’s highly likely that Walker ends up on a different team next year. What five teams around the league should take a shot on Walker?
5 teams that should target Kemba Walker this summer: Charlotte Hornets
This one was too obvious to not be mentioned. Kemba Walker spent the large majority of his career with the Charlotte Hornets, so it would make sense for them to bring him back.
Walker would be a solid backup point guard behind LaMelo Ball, as they just traded away Ish Smith at the trade deadline. He wouldn’t have to play many minutes but could prove some solid floor spacing.
However, spending money on Walker might not be in the best interest of the Hornets, as they have some other issues to deal with such as their struggling center position.
That being said, the storyline of Walker heading back to Charlotte would be a heartwarming one. Seeing him head back to where it all started would be very fun.
