3 reasons the Trail Blazers should trade Damian Lillard: Bite the bullet

Let’s just be honest – it’s time to move on. Damian Lillard has had nearly 10 seasons to win a title with the Portland Trail Blazers, and while it’s not his fault they didn’t accomplish that goal, the era needs to end.

Portland just traded way Lillard’s longtime co-star, CJ McCollum, and what they got back was essentially Josh Hart and cap space for this summer.

While they have stated that their plan is to build around Lillard, they need to start facing the reality that they will never be able to put a championship-caliber team around him with how talented the West is.

Plus, this free agency class is a particularly weak one, and there’s no guarantee that they sign any of the available free agents. They just need to stop delaying the inevitable.

Saying goodbye to, arguably, the best player in franchise history is never going to be easy, but by continuously re-signing him and putting a *slightly* different team around him, they are just simply putting things off.

By trading Lillard now, they would be biting the bullet and helping their franchise move forward. It’s commendable that the two parties have remained loyal to one another, but it’s time to move on.
