On Wednesday night, the Brooklyn Nets overcame a 28-point deficit to beat the New York Knicks, much to the horror of ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.

With no Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, or a newly acquired Ben Simmons, rookie Cam Thomas from LSU stole the show. He scored16 points in the fourth quarter alone, en route to a 111-106 victory over their in-state rival.

Stephen A. Smith ranting about the New York Knicks is exactly what we needed

Needless to say, on NBA Countdown following the game, Smith was not happy. He went off on arguably the most hilarious Knicks rant of his career, and there have been plenty of howling moments.

If you listen closely in the background, you can hear Smith’s fellow co-hosts laughing, including Michael Wilbon, who beat Smith in a Celebrity All-Star Game where both men were head coaches for their respective teams.

At this point, anyone who has watched this video from start to finish had to be crying laughing when it ended. As a matter of fact, most were probably doubled up on the floor laughing.

The mentions of the bets Smith will eventually pay off to his colleagues is enough to have even those with objectivity running through their veins crack a few chuckles. For example, he now owes a Tom Ford suit to Jay Williams after making bold and, by the looks of it, emotionally foolish proclamations based on last year’s magical season.

Last year, New York found themselves as the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and were bounced out by the Atlanta Hawks in the first round, losing the series 4-1. After winning against a slow-starting Boston Celtics team on opening night, Smith got extremely excited on TV, and rightfully so. That was when he started making bold proclamations.

And now, they are back to square one. Back to being a team that barks but does not bite. And as such, we are back to hearing more New York Knicks rants. But frankly, it’s almost good to hear, because there is a deeper meaning that often goes unnoticed.

Stephen A. Smith’s rants on the New York Knicks are a great source of entertainment

If you recall this past football season, when the Dallas Cowboys lost their opening playoff game to the San Francisco 49ers, Smith ran a montage on First Take of sad Cowboys fans. He laughed endlessly at the fanbase, calling them delusional and mocking their misery.

How the tables have turned.

The New York Knicks are essentially the same brand. Year after year, they end up in the headlines because of talking and lack of production on the floor. (The bark with no bite)

Last year, like several years for Dallas, they fielded a strong squad but failed to produce at the end. In simpler terms, what can go wrong, will go wrong, and the black cat is still running around.

So what does this mean, exactly? For one, it shows that you just have to be patient, because when the rant arrives, it’s worth grabbing a bucket of popcorn and hopefully not choking on it and spitting out your drink laughing when the rant finally manifests itself.

New York has talented players, and their fanbase, as bad as life has been for them, continues to stay loyal. So, there are bright spots. At the same time, when stuff like this happens and Stephen A. Smith goes off on a tirade, there’s nothing better to do than sit back, relax, and laugh.

Keep being you, Stephen A. Smith. The New York Knicks will have their day, and the rants will eventually disappear. But for now, we will continue to enjoy them as they come.
