NBA Trades: Pass or pursue on 5 rumored Raptors targets

NBA Trades: Pass or pursue on 5 rumored Raptors targets – Jusuf Nurkic
If Toronto is looking for an experienced veteran to satisfy their need for a center, their interest in Jusuf Nurkic is justifiable. A seven-year NBA veteran, Nurkic is having one of his most productive seasons.
The big man is averaging 14.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He would immediately bring some savviness into the mix and his production would help the Raptors bulk up their center depth.
With the Portland Trail Blazers seemingly making most of their roster available in NBA trades before the deadline, Nurkic could be obtainable. The Raptors would have to absorb what remains of his $12 million salary for this season, which is doable.
If Toronto is adamant about adding a big man but is unsure about wanting to include significant draft picks, Nurkic could be their best bet.
The Verdict: Pursue if the price is right
NBA Trades: Pass or pursue on 5 rumored Raptors targets – Nicolas Claxton
Nicolas Claxton could be the most interesting player on this entire list. Throughout his first three seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, the big man has shown glimpses of impressive potential, but his role in the rotation has been hit or miss at times.
At 22-years-old, a trade to Toronto could potentially accelerate Claxton’s development, as he’d be playing alongside the rest of an impressive, young Toronto core. Known for defensive versatility, shot-blocking, and rebounding, Claxton checks all the boxes for the Raptors.
If the Nets entertain trade offers for Claxton, it will likely take a haul to acquire him, considering that many would call him their best young asset. The Raptors have the assets to piece together a compelling package, and given that Claxton is still on his rookie deal, bringing him aboard would not break the bank for Toronto.
This is one they should explore the most, as the young center is loaded with untapped potential and he could immediately help them.
The Verdict: Pursue with persistence
It is no secret that the Raptors need a center before the deadline, and any of these five would do the job, although some would certainly fit better than others.
