NBA Trades: 3 panic trades for the New York Knicks to avoid – Russell Westbrook

Contrary to Brunson and Turner, Russell Westbrook would instantly kick this team up a notch on his arrival. He does not carry that big of a price tag and is definitely not afraid of the spotlight at this point in his career.

The Los Angeles Lakers are struggling right now, and similarly to the Knicks, are looking at the best options to try to salvage this disappointment of a season while they still can. Offloading Russ might be in the cards for them.

The Lakers absolutely do not care about draft picks or young and upcoming stars. What they want are veterans that can complete the puzzle with LeBron James and Anthony Davis come playoff time. The Knicks can offer them exactly that.

So what’s holding Leon Rose from picking up the phone and making the call to Rob Pelinka? Unfortunately, even though bringing Russ to New York might be just the push this team needs to make the playoffs, it would be the worst thing possible for this young core that the Knicks worked so hard to build throughout the past few years.

Westbrook is a true NBA legend, but his ball-hogging tendencies will not be beneficial next to an up-and-coming RJ Barrett, who is trying to solidify himself as a true scoring star.

Out of the three trades, Westbrook might be the least of three evils. His contract expired in 2023, provided he picks up his player option this summer, meaning that whatever team ends up with him doesn’t have to worry about any long-term commitments.
