NBA Trades: 3 panic trades for the New York Knicks to avoid
It’s fair to say that this hasn’t been the most ideal season for the New York Knicks so far. As of today, a record of 24-28 sees them as the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference, and even though the play-in tournament is still within reach, things will have to change to get there.
The Knicks were, by definition, overachievers last season, when they managed to make the playoffs and secure home-court advantage, too. Some key offseason moves were made, but unfortunately, they haven’t really panned out just yet.
During the offseason, the Knicks signed Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker in hopes of giving reigning Most Improved Player Julius Randle some extra scoring help after all those times that he seemed lost on an island last year.
In reality, not only did the aforementioned duo not live up to expectations, but Randle himself is making a strong case for the Most Worsened Player award, if they were to give out one.
The nature of being in New York City means that you often overreact when a few things do not go your way. In the Knicks’ case, this means potentially blowing up the entire roster in the days leading up to the trade deadline day on Thursday.
NBA Trades: A few good names appear to be on the market, but the New York Knicks should be wary of some tricky scenarios regarding certain players.
During these past couple of weeks, nobody has escaped the insane amount of trade talk that is surrounding the Knicks roster right now. Even though the front office hasn’t publicly named any players as available, the media sure seems to think so regarding the entire roster.
So what exactly are the New York Knicks in desperate need for? First and foremost, an identity. Is Randle the person to move the franchise forward? Or is it time to give the keys to the city to RJ Barrett?
Secondly, a true point guard that can run the team’s offense and get people involved. Heck, I remember typing these exact words on my keyboard last February too, and the year before, and the year before. You get the gist.
But not every trade option will end up being a good one. Here are some players that the Knicks should steer away from when discussing potential arrivals in the coming days.
