NBA Trades: Pass or pursue on 3 rumored Suns trade targets – Pursue
Eric Gordon is among the household names on the trade market leading up to the deadline, and the Suns are reportedly interested in pursuing him. According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, Gordon has been linked as a potential target for Phoenix, which is incredibly interesting.
Gordon is having another solid season with the Houston Rockets, averaging 14.3 points while shooting a red-hot 42 percent from three-point territory. The former Sixth Man of the Year winner would hypothetically provide a massive spark off Phoenix’s bench to make the second unit even more formidable than it already is.
With the aforementioned Payne and Shamet both sidelined, Gordon could come in and provide a much-needed boost in the backcourt. Even when those two are healthy, Gordon would still be viewed as an upgrade.
As noted by Fischer, Gordon also has ties to Chris Paul, given their time with the Houston Rockets, and reuniting the pair could rekindle some of their pre-established chemistry.
To acquire Gordon, the Suns would have to absorb what remains of his $18.2 million contract for this season, $19.6 million the following year, and his non-guaranteed $20.9 million the next year.
That amount of money could seem intimidating, but given how well Gordon has played this year, it would be far easier to digest, especially considering what he could do for the Suns.
As reported by HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Rockets are seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Gordon, which is doable for Phoenix. Due to his scoring, veteran savviness, and ability to help the team, the Phoenix Suns should make a strong run at acquiring Gordon.
The verdict: Pursue
