NBA Trades: 5 realistic trade targets for the Utah Jazz – Thaddeus Young

Thaddeus Young could be a realistic trade target for the Utah Jazz before the deadline. Young, a traditional power forward currently with the San Antonio Spurs, should be available on the market and would be an ideal boost to Utah’s needs and schemes.

The 33-year-old veteran has not been playing much for the Spurs after being sent over as a part of the DeMar DeRozan sign-and-trade deal with Chicago, and San Antonio seems likely to either move him by the deadline or buy out his contract.

It’s more likely that they acquire something in return for him via trade since there should be at least a few contenders interested in him.

Young has had a successful career and has been known for his sharp defensive mechanics, which would be a great fit for this Jazz team. Last year in the playoffs, Utah didn’t really have a big like Thaddeus Young that could defend pretty much any size and be able to effectively switch defensively. It haunted them.

Thad has excellent awareness, versatility, physicality, and experience that would help bolster Utah’s frontcourt. Rudy Gay hasn’t really been the answer that the Jazz have been looking for, but Young would be a much more reliable option and would certainly provide value once the postseason comes around.

Thad Young is on a $14.1 million expiring contract, so the Jazz could potentially get a deal done by offering Ingles and a second-round pick or one of their young assets. Any team willing to absorb Ingles’ contract now would be prioritizing cap relief next summer.

It’s safe to say that a deal sending Thaddeus Young to the Utah Jazz would benefit both teams and Young himself as the trade deadline approaches.
