Ayo Dosunmu was the best steal of the 2021 NBA Draft: Efficient Shooting
DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine are two of the best slashers in the game of basketball. The term refers to players who are great off the dribble, penetrate into the paint often, and cause a myriad of problems for the defense.
However, they don’t have free reign once they get into the paint. Double teams come quickly in the NBA, and their teammates must be ready to knock down shots when the ball is kicked back out to the perimeter.
That’s where a player like Ayo Dosunmu comes in handy. So far this season, he has proven to be a very reliable shooter. He is shooting 53.5 percent from the field and 43.0 percent from three-point range.
Having a guy who is not afraid to take and make shots is an asset that could help any team. Often, when rookies enter the NBA, there is an adjustment period for them to get used to the speed of the game. This often results in low shooting percentages during their first season.
Dosunmu seems to have already made that adjustment and is knocking down shots on a regular basis. That is why he is getting the playing time he deserves.
This past Monday, in a road win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Dosunmu’s shooting ability was on full display. He poured in 24 points while knocking down four out of his six three-point attempts.
Hot shooting like that is going to earn him even more opportunities to put his skills on display. So far this season, he’s taken full advantage of every opportunity that’s come his way.
