NBA Rumors: Goran Dragic “almost certain” to be traded by deadline
By Jack Simone
The Toronto Raptors are putting together a decent season, currently sitting at 24-23 on the year. They are jockeying for position in the play-in with hopes of securing a top-six spot in the East.
Fred VanVleet is playing like an All-Star, Pascal Siakam has looked great since returning from offseason surgery, and rookie Scottie Barnes has exploded onto the scene.
However, as the NBA trade deadline begins to come around, the player involved in NBA rumors is someone who has barely played for them this season.
NBA Rumors: Goran Dragic “certain” to be traded by deadline
According to Doug Smith of the Toronto Star (subscription required), the team has received a ton of interest surrounding Goran Dragic this season. (h/t Bleacher Report)
Not only that, but Smith revealed that Dragic is “almost certain” to be traded ahead of the NBA trade deadline on February 10 – less than two weeks away.
Dragic joined the Toronto Raptors this offseason as a part of the sign-and-trade deal that sent Kyle Lowry to the Miami Heat and Dragic and Precious Achiuwa up north.
However, while Achiuwa has played big-time minutes in Toronto, Dragic has only appeared in five games this season. He averaged 8.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while shooting 38.2 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from deep in those games.
Then at the end of November, it was reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic that Dragic would be stepping away from the team indefinitely for personal reasons. The following statement was released:
Dragic was a key part of the Miami Heat’s 2020 Finals run and was one of the best sixth men in the league for years. Now, the 35-year-old will likely find a new home very soon.
Where Dragic will end up, nobody knows. He’s set to be a free agent at the end of the year, though, so he’d obviously be a rental.
However, expect him to be on a new team by February 10, regardless.
