NBA Trades: 5 potential trade targets for the Cavaliers – Norman Powell

Portland Trail Blazers swingman Norman Powell could be a target for the Cleveland Cavaliers ahead of the trade deadline. Powell, a 28-year-old coveted trade candidate, could be available on the market and would be an ideal fit within Cleveland’s rotation.

With the Blazers reportedly listening to offers surrounding their veterans such as Powell, C.J. McCollum, Jusuf Nurkic, Robert Covington, and Larry Nance Jr., the Cavaliers could surface as a legitimate landing spot for the services of Norman Powell.

The 2019 NBA Champion with Toronto has become a productive two-way player throughout his career. He can score from all angles on the court and can defend multiple positions with his athleticism, versatility, and awareness.

Powell is currently averaging 18.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.0 steals per game on 44.8 percent shooting from the field and 39.3 percent from three-point territory in his second year with Portland. He’d be an excellent fit alongside Darius Garland in the backcourt for years to come.

He’s making $15.5 million this season after signing a five-year, $90 million contract extension last summer. Due to his salary range, the Cavaliers could attach a first-round pick to Ricky Rubio’s expiring contract in an offer, which would make a deal work money-wise.

Portland may not be incentivized enough by that, but the framework could also transition into a multi-team trade and the Cavs could always offer one or more second-round picks as well. Any team willing to take Rubio’s contract would be prioritizing cap relief heading into next season.

All in all, Norman Powell seems like a realistic and ideal fit for the Cleveland Cavaliers, making him a serious trade target to keep an eye on heading into the last weeks before the deadline.
