NBA Trades: 2 Rudy Gobert trades to reshape the Jazz – Portland Trail Blazers

Trail Blazers receive: Rudy Gobert, Rudy Gay

Jazz receive: Norman Powell, Robert Covington, Jusuf Nurkic, 2023 First-Round Pick, 2025 First-Round Pick

If the Portland Trail Blazers want to seriously alter the make-up of their franchise, this is one way to do it. At the same time, the Utah Jazz would receive the necessary assets to remain competitive.

For Portland, this trade is solely focused on improving their otherwise abysmal defense. Adding Rudy Gobert to the mix would undoubtedly help.

Throwing Gobert down low would essentially give the Blazers a safety net on that end of the floor. They could then focus on adding better perimeter defenders around him to really shore up that defense.

Looking at this deal from Utah’s perspective, it definitely helps their depth. They would trade in their All-Star for three starting-caliber NBA players.

Norman Powell is on the books for a while and would be a great scoring punch alongside Donovan Mitchell. His efficient shooting would fit right in with the Jazz.

Robert Covington is a guy the Jazz are reportedly interested in, anyway, although this definitely isn’t how they’ll go about getting him. He’s an extremely versatile defensive presence who can also shoot the three ball.

Lastly, Jusuf Nurkic would provide them with a replacement center. He’s a big body down low that can fill up the stat sheet on any given night. Overall, not a bad trade for their defensive genius of a big man.
