NBA Trades: 3 players the Knicks should trade away – Alec Burks

Similar to Even Fournier, if the New York Knicks are to trade Alec Burks, it would be to make room for the younger players on the roster.

After a very solid season with the team last year, the Knicks decided to re-sign Alec Burks to a 3-year, $30M contract extension. So far, it has not really worked out.

In 47 games played, Alec Burks has averaged 11.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists while shooting 38.2 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from three. While there is not a drastic difference in Alec Burks’ numbers from last year to this year, it is his play as of late that makes a trade seem likely.

In Alec Burks’ last 13 games played, he has averaged 9.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists while shooting an abysmal 31.1 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from three.

These numbers are unacceptable for any player, let alone a player like Burks, who has been playing the role of point guard when Kemba Walker has been out.

Similar to Fournier, it is likely that Alec Burks will not have much trade value. However, when you look at the young players on the roster who deserve more minutes, it makes sense for the Knicks to move on from the 30-year-old guard.
