Why George Hill is the ultimate glue guy for the Bucks: Wealth of experience

In the NBA, the value of experience cannot be overstated. Several times throughout the history of the league, supremely talented teams have failed to win a championship because they lacked the necessary playoff experience to get over the hump.

The 1995 Orlando Magic fell short against the defending champion Houston Rockets because their stars did not understand the magnitude of the moment as well as their opponents did. The same can be said of the 2012 Oklahoma City Thunder, who lost the NBA Finals to a more experienced Miami Heat team.

George Hill brings years of playoff experiences with him into a locker room full of guys who have also been through the wars of the playoffs. If the team finds themself in another hotly contested playoff series, the way they did last season, they can rest assured that Hill will not melt under an unfamiliar spotlight.

As a member of the Indiana Pacers, he played in the Eastern Conference Finals in both 2013 and 2014. As a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, he played in the NBA Finals in 2018. Hill has played on the NBA’s biggest stage. At this point in his career, his only interest is on getting back there as quickly as possible.

Last season, Giannis Antetokounmpo was forced to miss games five and six of the Eastern Conference Finals due to a hyper-extended knee. The team was forced to show their resolve and close out the series without their leading scorer and best player.

The Milwaukee Bucks were able to pull together due to their “next-man-up” mentality. George Hill has proven over the years that he shares this mindset. If his number is called upon in the playoffs, he has the experience to handle the pressure and perform in the moment.
