NBA Trades Pacific Division: Golden State Warriors: D.J. Augustin

The Golden State Warriors have few flaws on their roster when everyone is healthy, but the one thing this team could use is a true backup point guard. Gary Payton II has been solid off the bench this season, but he does not bring the facilitating or orchestrating that Golden State needs when Stephen Curry is off the floor. Scouring the market for potential targets, D.J. Augustin could be an option worth making a run at before the deadline.

Augustin has been a solid backup in this league over the past 13 seasons, averaging 9.6 points and 3.9 assists for his career. He would be a seamless fit with the Warriors’ reserves, providing a decent amount of scoring, passing, and outside shooting as a career 38 percent three-point shooter. He does not bring much to the table defensively, but he fits the bill as the backup floor general that this team could use.

To acquire Augustin, the Warriors would have to take on what remains of his $7 million salary with the Houston Rockets this season. If they were willing to do that, in addition to his partially guaranteed deal for next year, a deal could likely get done.

Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported back in December that Augustin is among the veterans on Houston’s roster that are being viewed as likely trade options across the league, and the rebuilding Rockets would likely be happy to help move him to the Warriors if they called.
