NBA Trades: The Los Angeles Lakers should switch their focus to Christian Wood

One more affordable center that the Lakers should look to acquire is Christian Wood of the Houston Rockets. Tim MacMahon of ESPN stated on December 10th that Houston was willing to hear trade offers for Wood, who is in his second year in Houston.

The big man is averaging 17.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists this season while shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from behind the three-point line.

Wood possesses the skillset required to be a stretch five, as he has made a high clip of his threes on three attempts per game. The general consensus around the league is that Houston will likely ask for a first-round pick and/or a young player.

For example, Nekias Duncan of Basketball News speculated on December 16th that the Hornets could acquire Wood for Kelly Obure.  Houston’s hypothetical asking price is something that the Lakers could afford to meet, as they could give up the 2028 first-round pick and one young player – most likely either Kendrick Nunn or Talen Horton-Tucker.

In conclusion, the Los Angeles Lakers’ defensive issues, combined with Indiana’s asking price, make Turner not worth it for the Lakers. Instead, they should pivot and focus on acquiring Wood.
