I was certainly surprised to see this. According to Jake Fischer, the Hornets may look to trade PJ Washington. I believe that, if he is made available, the Knicks should do their best to attempt to acquire the 23-year-old big man.

In 26 games played this season, PJ Washington is averaging 10.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 0.8 steals. All while shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from three.

PJ Washington would be an ideal fit on the Knicks bench, as that is where he has been playing for most of the season with the Hornets.

Washington is under contract until the end of next season and will then become a restricted free agent, if not extended. If the Hornets are not asking much for Washington it would be in the Knicks’ best interest to attempt to trade for him.

He can provide very valuable spacing, which the Knicks are lacking at the big man spot, with him preferably replacing Nerlens Noel off the bench.

Not only is Washington younger, but he is also making less money than Noel, who is slated to make around $9 million over the next three seasons. But he is also a far better offensive player, and with Noel’s inability to guard the perimeter and pick and roll at times, there is a good chance Washington will not be a big drop off defensively from Noel.
