NBA Trades Southeast Division: Charlotte Hornets – Myles Turner

The Charlotte Hornets have been in the market for a big man for months, and one target that has always made the most sense is Myles Turner.

As reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania (subscription required), the Hornets have indeed expressed interest in trading for the 25-year-old as the trade deadline nears. With Charlotte sitting at seventh in the East, a trade for Turner could help them work their way up in the standings.

Adding Turner, who has proven to be one of the best shot-blockers in the league today, would be a significant addition to Charlotte’s defense. According to NBA.com/stats, the Hornets are giving up 47.3 paint points per game, the 19th most in the association.

Turner, a two-time blocks leader, and currently making a run at a third, would give them the protection at the rim that they need to get better defensively. Turner would bring versatility on offense as well, as he can go to work down low or stretch the floor.

Making $17.5 million this season and the next, acquiring Turner would cost the Hornets quite a bit, but this move could be what they need to take that next step into contention. They have several desirable assets that could entice the Pacers, who seem headed toward a rebuild.

The Hornets should be first in line among teams looking to make a move for the big man, and Charania’s reporting suggests that they will kick the tires on a deal.
