NBA Trades: 3 teams that should trade for Cam Reddish – 2. New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans appear poised to be buyers at the deadline, perhaps a surprise, considering their record. But this is a franchise that believes it’s one Zion Williamson return away from factoring into the postseason.

Reddish would be an intriguing fit alongside Williamson and Brandon Ingram. He could help create a very versatile group of wings and pseudo-big men that could switch often and wreak havoc on both the offensive and defensive ends, should Reddish reach his potential.

He would be a more appealing option if Reddish shot the ball a bit better and could space the floor for this roster. He’s a career 32.9 percent shooter from three, though he has shown improvement with a 37.9 percent average this season. Reddish is also able to score in the pick-and-roll.

New Orleans’ bench would also benefit if Reddish were in the picture. The team’s bench has not really held up this season and Reddish would instantly become one of the best players of the unit if Willie Green plugged him in there.

The thrust of the issue for the Pelicans is what they’ll have to give up to get Reddish. Certainly, a young player will be part of the equation – Nickeil Alexander-Walker comes to mind.

A first-round pick is likely to need to trade hands as well. Is that worthwhile for a team that won’t compete for a title this year and could potentially sign Reddish in the offseason?

An underrated aspect of trading for Reddish is reuniting him with Williamson, his college teammate. It could serve as a reminder of all New Orleans will have done for Williamson should he ever decide to look elsewhere for an NBA future.
