NBA Trades: 3 teams that should trade for Cam Reddish – 3. Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers are suddenly looking like potential buyers for the first time since the LeBron James years. They’re still a young team, though, and likely want to continue building in part for a sustainable future.

Reddish could be a de facto replacement for Isaac Okoro, who hasn’t been bad in his first two seasons, but hasn’t quite validated a fifth overall selection either. This season, the wing is averaging 9.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, but he’s currently sidelined by a left elbow sprain.

If J.B. Bickerstaff doesn’t want to mess with the core, he could have Reddish come off the bench, alongside the likes of Kevin Love and Rajon Rondo. The latter would help the young wing find better scoring opportunities, while the former could still play the role of a leading scorer for the bench unit.

It’s obvious how Reddish fits into the Cavs’ long-term goals. If the team keeps Collin Sexton around, they could trot out a starting five of Sexton, Darius Garland, Reddish, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. That’s the kind of lineup that could be an Eastern Conference contender for years to come.

Whether or not he’s a good fit for this year is a different question, though. The Cavs are one of the best defensive teams in the league, but defense is a weakness for Reddish. His -1.1 defensive box plus/minus would be the worst of his three-year career if it holds up.

Regardless, Cleveland should be very cautious about giving up too much for Reddish. Parting ways with Okoro may make sense, but the rest of its young core should be untouchable, except the injured Sexton. Reddish may be a good target for Cleveland, but getting a deal done with Atlanta could ultimately be tricky.
