NBA: The worst player from each franchise to have their jersey retired
Each franchise worst player to have their jersey retired, Denver Nuggets: Byron Beck
Stats: 11.5 ppg, 7 rpg, 1.3 apg
If you’re getting your jersey retired by the Denver Nuggets, chances are, you were one helluva player. Every single hooper who laced em up for the franchise and had their jersey retired, was at some point an All-Star. Well, all but one.
Byron Beck is the lone player in franchise history who wasn’t a marquee cornerstone to have his jersey retired. Although Beck spent the entirety of his career with the Nuggets in both the ABA and NBA, he didn’t exactly set the hooping world on fire. At his very best, Beck averaged 14.2 points and seven boards. Once the playoffs came rolling by, Beck took his game up a few notches. He had multiple seasons in which he averaged double-doubles but seldom did it have an effect on the way the game ultimately played out.
Considering that we’re comparing Beck’s overall game to players such as Fat Lever, Dikembe Mutombo, Alex English, and several other All-Star caliber payers, Beck’s all-around game simply doesn’t come close to those aforementioned names.
