Each franchise worst player to have their jersey retired, Brooklyn Nets: Drazen Petrovic

Stats: 19.5 ppg, 2.9 apg, 2.8 rpg

There weren’t many who were expecting Drazen Petrovic to become a star. After all, he was taken with the 60th overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft. Still, after putting up a few meager stats during his time in Portland, Petrovic found a home with the New Jersey Nets.

In two of his three seasons, he averaged over 20 points per game and appeared to be on his way to superstardom. During a time where long-distance shooting wasn’t considered a premium quality, Petrovic averaged over 44% from the 3-point line in back-to-back seasons.

If given more time, we have little to no doubt that Petrovic would’ve made more than his share of All-Star appearances. But, unfortunately for Petrovic, his life was tragically cut short after only three seasons with the Nets due to a car accident.

While we completely understand why the Nets decided to honor him, we never fully got to see Petrovic at his best.
