Each franchise worst player to have their jersey retired, Indiana Pacers: George McGinnis

Stats: 9.4 ppg, 6.7 rpg

We won’t sit here and deny the Hall of Fame credentials of George McGinnis. If we’re being completely honest, we couldn’t even if we tried. During his time in the league, McGinnis was nearly impossible to stop. He averaged 20.2 points per game to go along with 11 boards.

By the time the curtains came down on his career, McGinnis was a six-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA selection, three-time All-ABA team member and he was easily named to the ABA All-Time Team. But, his time as an Indiana Pacer was forgettable.

McGinnis arrived at the tail end of his career and his drop-off in production showed that he was on his last legs. He averaged just 9.4 points per game in three seasons and spent most of his time sitting on the bench.

Was McGinnis one of the greatest players ever? He sure was but he was a shell of his former great self by the time he arrived in Indiana.
