3 NBA trades for the Hawks to get Trae Young a co-star: Pascal Siakam
Hawks receive: Pascal Siakam
Raptors receive: Danilo Gallinari, Cam Reddish, Onyeka Okongwu, 2024 First-Round Pick, 2027 First-Round Pick
Adding Pascal Siakam to the mix would give the Atlanta Hawks a great two-way forward. He would be a solid defensive presence and secondary scoring option next to Trae Young.
Siakam struggled last year but has been quietly having a nice bounce-back season since returning from injury. He’s averaging 20.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists while shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 31.5 percent from deep.
Atlanta would have to work out how to play John Collins and Siakam together, but there’s no doubt that the two could somehow co-exist in the starting lineup.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Raptors would be committing to a sort of pseudo-rebuild with this trade. They would be fully committing to giving Scottie Barnes the keys at power forward.
While Barnes and Siakam have been able to co-exist so far, trading away Siakam would help them acquire more assets to put alongside Barnes moving forward.
Cam Reddish has fallen behind a few players in Atlanta’s huge wing rotation. Toronto would give him a new chance and new opportunity to expand his game.
A similar statement could be made for Onyeka Okongwu. Toronto loves versatile big men, and they would likely give Okongwu a lot of opportunities there.
Danilo Gallinari would be added simply to match salaries, but the Raptors could buy him out if they really wanted to. They’d also get two unprotected firsts for their troubles.
