5 NBA free agents who have disappointed so far this season: Duncan Robinson, Miami Heat

Duncan Robinson signed a 5-year, $85M extension during the 2021 offseason to stay with the Miami Heat, and boy has this contract looked bad. Even at the time of the extension, I did not fully understand it.

While Robinson was one of the best shooters in the league, that is really all he is capable of, and to pay a player like that $17M a season doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

To make things worse, Robinson has not even been that good of a shooter this season, shooting 34.6 percent from three-point range on 8.6 attempts per game. To put that into perspective, last season Robinson shot 40.8 percent from three on 8.5 attempts per game

While Robinson is not shooting very well from three, he has had some great games from range, with15 games in which he shot 40 percent or higher from three. While this is still not that ideal considering his contract size and what he is expected to do, it is still somewhat promising.

I am not that worried about Robinson. At the start of the season, a lot of players struggled to shoot the ball. While most have recovered, unlike Robinson, the season is not even halfway done. He has a lot of time to turn things around and fix his problems.
