Jrue Holiday deserves to be an NBA All-Star this season: Stiff competition
When Jrue Holiday played in the All-Star game back in 2013, the Eastern Conference was dominated by forwards.
Paul George of the Indiana Pacers enjoyed a breakout campaign that established him as one of the stars of the league. Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks led the NBA in scoring, and LeBron James of the Miami Heat won the league MVP. While Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets and Holiday’s teammate, Giannis Antetokounmpo, are the two best players in the conference this year, point guards in the East never get a night off.
On one hand, there are wily veterans like Marcus Smart and Lonzo Ball; guys who are clever defenders but also capable of knocking down shots if given too much space.
On the other hand, there are the perennial All-Stars. James Harden, Trae Young, and Kyle Lowry have earned their reputations as point guards who are capable of shifting the momentum and changing the outcome of a game.
There are also young hungry lions like Cade Cunningham and LaMelo Ball, who are eager to make a name for themselves at the expense of some unexpecting veterans. With competition this intense, Holiday never gets a break, and he’s fine with that.
The Milwaukee Bucks find themselves in a race to the playoffs with the usual suspects and a few surprise teams as well. The Brooklyn Nets are a factor just like everyone expected.
The resurgent Chicago Bulls and the upstart Cleveland Cavaliers will not be “easy-outs,” either, should Milwaukee find themselves matched up against them in a series.
One thing’s for certain, the Bucks do not have to worry about their point guard. He will show up and perform no matter who the competition is. For that reason, he should be named an NBA All-Star this season.
