NBA Power Rankings Week 7: The battle for the number one spot
By Jack Simone
We have officially passed the quarter mark of the NBA season. However, things are looking a bit different than normal this year than they have in years past.
For the first time in what feels like a long time, the Eastern Conference is very clearly better than the Western Conference. Outside of the top two teams out West, the East is dominant.
The West only has four total teams above the .500 mark right now, while the East has 10. That’s right, the 10th seed in the East right now would be the fifth seed in the West.

A part of this is due to injuries, but a bigger part is due to teams simply underperforming. And this case could be made for teams across both conferences.
At the same time, though, some of the teams towards the bottom of the conferences have been making noise, too – whether that be good or bad.
The good is the Houston Rockets having the longest winning streak in the NBA, and the bad is the Oklahoma City Thunder losing by the largest margin in NBA history.
This season has been a crazy one, to say the least, and that can be easily reflected in the NBA power rankings. There’s no clear choice as to who should be ranked where.
So, without further adieu, how have the NBA power rankings changed over the course of one week? Where does your favorite team rank among the rest?
