NBA: The 25 least deserving Hall of Famers of all-time: 2. Drazen Petrovic
Stats: 15.4 ppg, 2.4 apg, 2.3 rpg
If time allowed it, we’re pretty confident that Drazen Petrovic would’ve earned his spot in the Hall of Fame. That said, not all stories are afforded a fairytale ending.
When it comes to his time overseas, Petrovic won a ton of awards both individually and in a team setting. He won bronze in the 1984 Olympic Games and numerous medals at the FIBA World Cup. Petrovic also took home the MVP award in the 1986 and 1989 FIBA World Cup.
It took a little while for Petrovic to get going in the NBA but once he did, he was terrific. In back-to-back seasons in 1992 and 1993, he averaged over 20 points per game, shot over 50% from the field and over 40% from distance. Essentially, he was Steph Curry before Steph Curry. Okay, that’s a bit hyperbolic but you catch our drift.
Unfortunately, at the age of 28, Petrovic’s time in the league and on this earth, was cut short due to a horrific car accident. And while it pains us to remove him from the Hall of Fame, considering how short his career was, having played only five seasons, two of which should be viewed as elite, he simply didn’t have the longevity to make the Hall.
