NBA: The 25 least deserving Hall of Famers of all-time
NBA: The 25 least deserving Hall of Famers of all-time: 12. Gail Goodrich
Stats: 18.6 ppg, 4.7 apg, 3.2 rpg
There were a number of really good seasons for Gail Goodrich. In six separate years, he averaged at least 20 points per game, including in 1972 when he dropped 25.9 points a night.
At the time, the Los Angeles Lakers were stacked. They not only did they have Goodrich but also Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain. Making the playoffs was pretty much a guarantee every season but racking up titles should’ve been as well.
Before it was all said and done, Goodrich did help the Lakers win one title but in our opinion, his refusal to pass the ball more often was a huge reason why they didn’t accomplish more. Goodrich appeared to care more about his personal stats as opposed to sharing the rock with two of the greatest scorers of all time.
Still, with five All-Star appearances under his belt, we gotta give Goodrich some credit for nabbing a few accolades. But even from that standpoint, five All-Star appearances really shouldn’t equate to a Hall of Fame slot. Also, outside of those midseason classics, Goodrich didn’t win much else. He was named to just one All-NBA team and was never in the MVP conversation.
Goodrich was simply a gunner who didn’t give up the ball nearly as much as he should’ve.
