Week 6 NBA Power Rankings: 24. Sacramento Kings (8-12)

Rank last week: 25th

Last week: (2-1) – vs. PHI (L), vs. POR (W), @ LAL (W)

Offensive rating: 109.6 (10th in NBA)

Defensive rating: 110.7 (26th in NBA)

The Sacramento Kings had a fairly tumultuous week that ended with two wins in a row. Unfortunately, that’s not enough to catapult them any higher up the standings just yet.

They fired head coach Luke Walton recently and appointed Alvin Gentry as the interim head coach. However, Gentry has been adamant that he hoped the team did not add the interim title.

Recent NBA rumors suggest that two Warriors assistant coaches are towards the top of Sacramento’s list of replacements – Kenny Atkinson and Mike Brown. Although, no formal offers have been made.

Two wins to end the week, including a triple-overtime thriller over the Lakers, have the team moving in the right direction. However, they are not out of the woods just yet.

Season outlook: The Kings have been trying to break their playoff drought for a long, long time. This current core should be getting a lot closer to doing that than they have in recent years. A new coach could spark some change, but unless we see a drastic turnaround, this team might be headed for the lottery once again.
