NBA role players who could become stars elsewhere: 8. Jerami Grant
After nearly making an All-Star game in his first season with the Detroit Pistons, Jerami Grant made his first Olympic appearance. His play has dipped to start the season, understandable considering that he is the only person in the starting lineup over the age of 23. The burden to perform at such a high level consistently has shown that Grant may not be made to be the top option on a playoff team. However, his explosion last season showed that he could be perfectly suited to be the second option.
Grant was fantastic with an increased role, averaging 22.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. He attempted nearly three more 3-point shots per game and still shot 35.0 percent. He nearly doubled his overall field goal attempts and only saw his efficiency dip slightly.
Being an elite complementary scorer (as Grant seems to be showing the potential to be) combined with his ability to defend multiple positions on the other end of the court is the true definition of a star. He was showing the ability to do that with the Denver Nuggets but saw that his future there was likely restricted to being the fourth option at best. He has since proved that he is capable of far more than that.
