NBA: Ranking the league’s best third options
NBA: Ranking the league’s best third options: 29. Josh Giddey, Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder are a bit of a mess at the moment. By the time their season comes to an end, we fully expect them to have one of the worst records in the entire league.
In terms of talent on the offensive end, the Thunder have only one player who can consistently get his own shot and light up the scoreboard in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Outside of him, no one else is reliable which makes it extremely difficult to figure who is their third-best scorer.
After a careful examination, we’ve come to the conclusion that no one on this squad is good enough to be a third option on any team. But, since we have no choice, we’ve tipped our cap in the direction of rookie Josh Giddey.
As it currently stands, he isn’t great or particularly good in many areas with the ball in his hands but he has the potential to grow nicely into his role. With a perimeter shot that falls beneath the 30% clip, he isn’t quite ready to take the leap in the scoring column. Because of that, we view Giddey as one of the worst third options in the league but check back in a few years when he’s all grown up.
