NBA: Ranking the league’s best third options
NBA: Ranking the league’s best third options: 9. Dennis Schroder, Boston Celtics
Signing Dennis Schroder has turned out to be a huge blessing for the Boston Celtics. Sure, they’re still currently out of the playoff picture, but Schroder has played his part nicely thus far.
After dropping the ball and a boatload of money with the Los Angeles Lakers, Schroder could be on his way to getting a ton of cash this coming offseason. At the moment, he’s averaging 14.2 points per game to go along with 6.0 assists.
Also, more importantly, Schroder has stepped in nicely when the Celtics needed a few spot starts from him. Remember, Schroder may have been in the league for a while but he’s only 28 and as good as he’s ever been. But while his numbers overall are pretty solid, he’ll need to up his game when it comes to his efficiency. In today’s day and age, shooting under 40% from the field is simply unacceptable.
At some point, we expect him to pick those numbers up. The bottom line about Schroder, is that he has the whole offensive package. He gets to the rim at will and sets up his teammates nicely when given the chance. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown couldn’t ask for a better third option. Well, they could, but he’s a great one to have.
